The Human Lawyer

Living the Human Lawyer Experience: Morgan Lewis (A Society 54 x CoLaw Collaboration)

October 9, 2019

You don’t have to be a lawyer to know how to think like a lawyer; act like a lawyer; talk like a lawyer, or interact with lawyers. In fact, you could argue some of the best lawyers are the non-lawyers in our lives; those impassioned advocates who stand with stable-footed conviction behind causes.

Conversely, you don’t have to be a human to be a lawyer, so a critic may say. The same critic may say that an average lawyer has been so dehumanized that the rehumanization process is comparable to a rocket ship re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere. We’re not here to debate the efficacy of the critic’s viewpoint; only to acknowledge its existence. And that’s sad. What if you could change the worldview of lawyers one public perception at a time? Assuming you could, change starts with lawyers. How to change?

Morgan Lewis can help. Who’s Morgan?

Morgan is a human who doubles as a legal marketing expert. She loves the DEETS (read: details; thank God for her) and she’s channeled that detail-oriented passion in her work for law firms large and small from coast to coast. At Society 54, Morgan is the Director of Strategic Initiatives, which in human words means that she applies thought to planning and execution. Because that’s what it’s about, right? Getting -ish done.

With an invigorating “can-do” attitude, Morgan approaches marketing-related obstacles as a misplaced piece in the puzzle. The piece simply needs relocating so the client can continue his or her successful journey. Over the past decade, Morgan has tackled multi-practice group business development, strategic planning and implementation, budget planning and organization, business promotions, event organization and management, and roadmaps . . . yes, ROADMAPS. Sadly, there’s no Waze for authentic business development.

In her life as a human, Morgan enjoys living the American dream: i.e., reading, cooking, red wine, being married to a college soccer coach (Go Cats), being a mother to a sassy and spunky toddler daughter, and keeping a dog-human alive.

Interested in learning some tips from Morgan about authentic business development? She and her colleague, Shannon Blackwell, are presenting on October 23, 2019, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am, at 1026 Jay Street, Charlotte, NC 28208. Sign up here.

the human lawyer is a 501(c)(3) north carolina non-profit corporation. it is not a law firm. it will never be a law firm. it does not offer legal services. it never will. the lawyers featured are completely independent and unaffiliated. they always will be. we focus exclusively on human storytelling through a variety of different mediums. if you are compelled to support: first, thank you; and second, all contributions are tax-deductible in furtherance of our charitable purpose.
