Caring for others can take you to seemingly unrelated places, like the Mecklenburg County Public Defender’s Office or a food and travel blog.
Chrissie’s focus on others started early. The power of perspective has showed Chrissie that being around people is her magic sauce, whether it’s the homeless men and women from Miriam’s Kitchen in Washington, D.C., or her grade school friends who didn’t get the Nutpracker part when she earned a prominent role (third grade, friends = big stuff).
Her others-focused perspective does not have an off-switch, which can be challenging. She emotes watching her favorite musical (Les Mis) without hurting for a marginalized character. So ever since Chrissie can remember, she has wanted to help people; it just wasn’t clear what that would look like. Then she found public defense her senior year of college, which informed her work as a law student.
And so here we are with Chrissie Rotko, the public defender and food and travel blogger.
