Human Lawyer Podcast: F3 Expungement

November 24, 2020

A true second chance—that’s what Matt, Rob, and Jordan care about and fight for. They fight in the context of expunctions (or expungements), believing that after a person has served their time, there’s no need to extend their sentence beyond the prison walls. For Matt, Rob, and Jordan, they recognize that a real second chance envisions a stable job and stable housing, both of which are significantly impacted by a criminal record.

As our society reimagines recidivism and criminal records, Matt, Rob, and Jordan lead the conversation like the time they monitored and advocated for the passage of The Second Chance Act. Remarkably, in 2020, the Act was unanimously passed by the North Carolina General Assembly. How about that for bipartisan support? Perhaps it should not be a surprise given that at our core, stripped of labels, political or otherwise, we remain human.

What makes Matt, Rob, and Jordan human? A quick internet search would tell you one works at a fancy international law firm; the other graduated from a fancy law school; and the other a fancy, world-renowned poker player. Surely, we are more than fancy things? Matt, Rob, and Jordan are here to talk about it.

Amplifying human stories to explore how those stories inform people’s work as lawyers. Our mission: to expand the margin we have for other lawyers by focusing on that which makes us human to identify how the “human stuff” leads lawyers to a fulfilled career, whether in the law or something else.

the human lawyer is a 501(c)(3) north carolina non-profit corporation. it is not a law firm. it will never be a law firm. it does not offer legal services. it never will. the lawyers featured are completely independent and unaffiliated. they always will be. we focus exclusively on human storytelling through a variety of different mediums. if you are compelled to support: first, thank you; and second, all contributions are tax-deductible in furtherance of our charitable purpose.
