The Human Lawyer Podcast: Idara Bassey

May 10, 2022

Dr. Idara Bassey is the secret weapon; the person who helps others get unstuck. She values joy, change making, and fulfillment. Before helping others get unstuck, Dr. Bassey became one of the youngest executives at Africare, the largest African-American operated nonprofit in the United States doing work on the African continent. She directed a support program for African diplomats; mobilizing high-level officials from the White House, the World Bank, the IMF, and USAID on their behalf before being named the organization’s in-house legal counsel.

From that work, Dr. Bassey has found ways to continue impacting and improving the lives of others from her work as a law professor to her work providing customized individual and group coaching to legal professionals. The author of an award-winning collection of essays called Reflections of a Mythical Sistah, Dr. Bassey is here today to share instances when thinking like a lawyer fails. And more specifically, Dr. Bassey will share why listening to your heart can be the secret sauce and how doing so led her to a life as a corporate lawyer, a spiritual seeker, and a creative spirit.
