The Human Lawyer

Human Lawyer Podcast: Jan Newman

February 9, 2021

How do you figure out what matters now? Have you ever asked a lawyer a seemingly straight-forward question and received the response: it depends? If “it depends” is the standard response, then can a lawyer identify that which matters now?

Enter Jan Newman—lawyer, turned psychologist. Before becoming Dr. Newman, she was IP lawyer Newman, practicing intellectual property law at one the largest law firms in the United States. Feeling the urge to do something different, she obtained a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology with highest honors. Her therapeutic work focuses on a range of approaches, from cognitive behavioral therapy to Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (“SPACE”).

Jan is also an author, having published numerous research articles to further develop our understanding of adolescent children and illegal sexual behavior. Jan’s professional swimming pool has no shallow water. She’s in the deep end always, dealing with heavy stuff; the stuff that matters. All with one goal: to identify what matters now.
