Human Lawyer Podcast: Jonathan Barber

March 17, 2020

  • “Approachable, client-facing personality”
  • “Paperless office”
  • “Unhurried”
  • “Thorough”
  • “No problem too big or small”
  • “No dumb questions”
  • “Honorable and reliable”

Those aren’t my words. They are the words of Jonathan Barber’s clients. Don’t believe me. Ask Google. Jonathan’s story is unique for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is this: he has achieved, and is achieving, demonstrable success with alarming rapidity. So how?

Here’s another reason Jonathan’s unique: the courage to develop and commit to a niche practice early in his career. When did he find out he wanted to make his “niche” his everyday? Was there a particular matter giving rise to that realization? Conversation? Introspection?

And finally when did he develop, as he would put it: a “healthy disregard for the impossible.” And how does he define what is possible? Does he? If not, why not?

Let’s see how much ground we can cover.

Amplifying human stories to explore how those stories inform people’s work as lawyers. Our mission: to expand the margin we have for other lawyers by focusing on that which makes us human to identify how the “human stuff” leads lawyers to a fulfilled career, whether in the law or something else.

the human lawyer is a 501(c)(3) north carolina non-profit corporation. it is not a law firm. it will never be a law firm. it does not offer legal services. it never will. the lawyers featured are completely independent and unaffiliated. they always will be. we focus exclusively on human storytelling through a variety of different mediums. if you are compelled to support: first, thank you; and second, all contributions are tax-deductible in furtherance of our charitable purpose.
