Kelly Owens is an outside General Counsel for her clients in the San Diego area. At her firm (Fagen Friedman and Fulfrost), she is the co-chair of the firm’s Business, Facilities, Real Estate, Construction & Energy Practice Group. However, Kelly’s human story, at least the story she discovered, began in 2014, when she had a 10-month-old, $150,000 in student loan debt, and a life that left her wondering: Is this what I want? Kelley calls this her Oola story. She is the Oola lawyer.
At the peak of her “healthy level of disgust,” Kelly identified seven goals which she memorialized in her journal: (1) be a good Catholic; (2) be happy; (3) enjoy life; (4) take care of her body; (5) work hard; (6) be a great wife, daughter, sister, and friend; and (7) be honest with herself and others. She was 30 at the time. Kelley’s work identifying her goals led her to Oola, which helps people achieve balance and growth in seven key areas—seven areas that mirrored the goals Kelley set out for herself just prior to the Oola discovery. The serendipity was not lost on Kelley.
In January of 2021, Kelley paid off all her and her husband’s student loans (approximately $300,000.00, but who’s counting) all while working a part-time schedule at her amazing law firm so she can have an extra day every week to just be a mom. Ultimately, for Kelley, the unlived life is the worst life. And now she dedicates her work to helping other moms and lawyers unlock their unique state of awesomeness.
